Nessie the Truffle Dog
We are proud to announce Woods for Learning has a new team member who started their training this week “Nessie the Truffle Hunter”.
Nessie, already a qualified search dog in other disciplines, was instructed to 'find the truffles', which were hidden by a third party, so neither the dog or the handler knew where the jar (containing cotton wool soaked with truffle oil) was located. Nessie is seen working enthusiastically to trace the scent in the air, and then work the smell back to the source. When Nessie finds the truffle oil, she is seen barking to notify her handler. Nessie is then instructed to show us exactly where the jar is buried, to receive a tasty treat! A fun game of 'hide and seek' for the dog, and unique experience to witness this ancient skillset for us humans!
